Shocker Women First, Men Second at MVC

Final Results

NORMAL, Ill.  --  
Wichita State's women were first and the men were second at the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Meet Sunday. Nikki Larch-Miller was named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete and Head Coach Steve Rainbolt was named Women's Coach-of-the-Year.

The women's team out-distanced second-place Indiana State, 179-149, while the men finished second behind the SIU, 159-143.

WSU's women's 4x100 relay team broke its own school record with a time of 45:23 and Nikki Larch-Miller won the 100 meter hurdles in record time Sunday at the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championship.

In the 100 hurdles, Nikki Larch-Miller broke the MVC All-Time record, MVC Meet record, and ISU Facility record. Nikki Larch-Miller won with a time of 13.08. Her sister Taylor Larch-Miller took second with a time of 13.21. Both were personal bests and Nikki's time re-claimed the WSU school record from her sister.

Shanice Andrews, Deja Young, Nikki and Taylor Larch-Miller broke their school record with a time of 45:23 in the 4x100 meter relay.

TF: WSU sweeps the 3000m Steeplechase and Women's High Jump Saturday

NORMAL, Ill.  --  Wichita State swept the men's and women's steeplechase and the women's high jump Saturday at the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championship.

In the team effort, WSU's men led, 55-26, over Drake after Day 2, while the Shocker women trailed SIU, 86-75. UNI had 23 points on the men's side for third, while Indiana State had 44 points on the women's side for third.

Sidney Hirsch won the 3000-meter steeplechase on the women's side with a 10:30.27, a mark that set her personal best and also the fourth-best time in Shocker history. 

In the men's steeplechase, the Shockers took the top two spots with Ugis Jocis' time of 9:13.50 and Kyle Larkin's time of 9:16.45.

In the women's high jump, Breanne Borman, Ashley Peterson and Haley Griffin took the top three spots with heights of 5-feet, 7-inches.

In other women's action, Taylor Swanson finished third in the women's pole vault with a height of 13-feet, 1/4 inch. In the long jump, Taylor Larch-Miller finished second by 1/4 inch with a distance of 20-1.5.

On the men's side, Austin Chippeaux was third in the high jump with a height of 6-8.

TF:Borman Finishes Runner-up in Heptathlon

NORMAL, Ill.  --  Breanne Borman finished second in the women's heptathlon with a personal-best 5,406 points which also ranks as the fourth-best in Shocker history. She won the shotput  and javelin in the two-day event. She threw 38-11.75 in the shot and 132-11 in the javelin.

Jenny Pinkston was fifth (4,616), Sierra Hays was sixth (4,509) and Emily Doffing (4,509) finished seventh to all score for WSU.

In the Decathlon, Kyle Troxler finished fourth (6,548) and Chris Peters finished fifth (6,423).

WSU took the top three spots in the javelin in the continuation of the rain-delayed event Saturday morning as Dylan Reimer threw 217-4 to win the title. The javelin throwers collected 24 total points as Aaron True finished second with a throw of 214-9 and Chase Pote threw 209-8 for third at the MVC Track and Field Championships.

TF: Shocker Men Take Early First-Day Lead

NORMAL, Ill.  --   Wichita State's men were first and women second early on in competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championship late Friday night after a rain-delayed 10,000-meters.  Meet Central  |  Live Stats | Wichita State Blog and Event-by-Event Updates

Paul Raymond was third on the men's side with a time of 30:03.31 in the 10,000-meters, which was moved to a lighted venue at Illinois Wesleyan after storms moved through the area.

Wichita State's Breanne Borman is second, Jenny Pinkston is fifth and Sierra Hays is sixth after four events in the Heptathlon at the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championship Friday. In addition, Kyle Troxler is fourth after five events in the Decathlon.

In completed events, Weston Cottrell led the men's hammer throwers, which scored a combined 16 total points, with a second place throw of 210-10. Skylar Arneson had a fourth-place finish with a throw of 208-0 Taylor Goldsmith was sixth with a throw of 194-10.

Andrea Navarro won the women's javelin with a throw of 144-06, while Kelsey Tinbrink was third with a throw of 136-05.

The men's javelin was interrupted with severe weather after two rounds and will be completed tomorrow. The 10,000-meters was moved to tonight after the severe weather moves out of the area.

TF: WSU Travels to Normal, Ill., for MVC Championship

Wichita State has set school records in six events this Spring and student-athletes have put their names into the Shocker Top 10 record lists 28 times. Taylor and Nikki Larch-Miller claim 10 of those marks.

Competition beings 10 a.m., Friday with the Decathlon and 10:30 a.m., with the Hepathlon. A complete schedule is below. Wet conditions are expected during the three-day event.
