EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Abby Stevens and Aleks Trifunovic joined a select group of 30-match winners, and No. 33 Wichita State pounded Southern Illinois 4-0 to advance to its 10th-consecutive Missouri Valley Conference women's tennis final.
Stevens and Trifunovic both produced clean 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at Nos. 4 and 5 singles to became just the fifth and sixth players in program history to notch 30 singles wins in a season.
Stevens (30-6) won her 10th-straight match, and Trifunovic improved to 30-4.
Trifunovic worked with Luca Pump for a win at No. 3 doubles, and the team of Lucia Kovalova and Rebecca Pedrazzi won on the first court to claim the doubles point for WSU.
Guilia Guidetti produced the Shockers' third point at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Trifunovic's triumph made it a 4-0 WSU lead and officially clinched the dual.
SIU ended its season at 15-10.
WSU (23-3) now has the second-highest dual victory total in school history, trailing only the 2006-07 group, which finished 27-3.
The Shockers will take on the winner of second-seeded Drake (21-6) and third-seeded Northern Iowa (16-6) in Sunday's championship, which begins at 10:00 a.m. CT.
WSU has appeared in the MVC title match every year since 2006 and is 8-1 in that stretch. Its only setback came in the 2008 final to Indiana State. The Shockers haven't lost to a Valley opponent since that match, claiming a conference-record 68-straight.
