WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's track and field student-athletes will compete in multiple events this weekend beginning Friday with the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, and Saturday with the Sacramento State Mondo Mid-Major Challenge.
At Stanford, more than 3,300 athletes -- open competitors, entrants from 109 four-year colleges, plus community colleges and high schools -- will converge on Cobb Track and Angell Field on Friday and Saturday for the 40th Stanford Track and Field Invitational.
The Stanford Invitational has been held continuously since 1985, but has its roots as far back as 1975 when Stanford first began holding a large late-March meet, with the Stanford Relays.
The San Francisco State Distance Carnival is Friday and Saturday and has evolved into a great option for distance runners to set fast times at a fantastic venue with ideal weather conditions and loaded fields. Athletes and teams from around the country who have become part of this growing meet since 2008.The two-day meet, which expanded to field events last year, begins Friday at 8:30 a.m. at Cox Stadium.
The Sacramento State Mondo Mid-Major Challenge will be held this Saturday, April 4, at Hornet Stadium. This will be a team-scored event which will include Sacramento State, Fresno State, Wichita State, Cal State Northridge, Utah State and North Dakota State. There are also some select post collegiate athletes that will compete but will not score.
The scoring for the meet will be the standard invitational format of 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. There will be nine individuals who qualify for finals in the the field events but only the top eight will score.
