WBB: Jody Adams Withdraws from Basketball Search

4/19/2015 10:33:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan.  --  Wichita State head women's basketball coach Jody Adams has withdrawn her name from the University of Kansas women's basketball search, she announced today.

"I have decided to to stay at Wichita State and continue our winning ways," Adams said. "I have great respect for Kansas University, its storied basketball tradition and the remarkable individuals that continue to add to that tradition.

"Understandably, I was honored that Sheahon Zenger considered me to be the Head Women's Basketball Coach at KU. I am extremely proud to be the head women's basketball coach at Wichita State University and I look forward to continuing my work with our own group of remarkable administrators, coaches, student-athletes and fans."

Adams, the school's all-time winningest women's basketball coach, has guided the Shockers to the most successful era in Wichita State women's basketball history with three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, Missouri Valley Conference regular-season titles and MVC Tournament titles.

"We are glad to hear that Coach Adams has removed herself from consideration for head coaching positions at other institutions," Sexton said.  "Jody has done a great job to make our program at Wichita State relevant on an annual basis. Our department will continue to support women's basketball at a championship level as we have in the past. Continuity is always what we desire and this news today is welcome to Shocker Athletics."

In 2014-15, Wichita State won a school-record 29 wins and received votes the last four weeks of the season in the Top 25 AP poll.

In addition, Adams coached the school's all-time leading scorer, the first-ever AP Honorable Mention All-America and the first Shocker to be drafted in the WNBA Draft immediately after her senior season in Alex Harden.
