WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State juniors Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet were named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's All-District VI team, Tuesday afternoon.
It's the second-straight year that multiple Shockers have made the 10-man team and the third time in the past four seasons.
The USBWA divides the country into nine sections. District VI is made up of seven states (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Missouri and South Dakota).
VanVleet - a point guard from Rockford, Ill. – is the first Shocker to earn the honor twice under Gregg Marshall. He and Cleanthony Early made the team in 2014.
VanVleet led the Missouri Valley Conference in assists (5.3 per game) this year and ranks in the top 10 nationally with a 3.07-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. He was named First Team All-MVC and also landed on the conference's All-Defensive squad.
Baker – a shooting guard from Scott City, Kan. – averaged a team-high 15.0 points and also earned First Team All-MVC status.
The USBWA will announce its All-America Teams on March 16.
