WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State dynamic duo of junior guards continues to earn accolades.
Fred VanVleet is one of 17 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation's best point guard. Teammate Ron Baker is on a list of 16 for the Jerry West Award, honoring the top shooting guard.
It's the second straight year that VanVleet has made the cut for the Cousy Award, established in 2004 in honor of the former Holy Cross great, who played from 1946-50, then went on to win six NBA titles.
West was an All-American at West Virginia and a 10-time First Team All-NBA selection for the Los Angeles Lakers. This is the inaugural season for the West Award.
Both honors are presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame. Each list will narrow to five players in early March, with final voting conducted by a committee of top college basketball personnel.
The winners will be announced ESPN's new College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's from Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Friday, April 10.
