WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State point guard Fred VanVleet was honored by the Missouri Valley Conference, Monday, as one of its Players of the Week.
The 6-foot, junior guard out of Rockford, Ill. averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals to help WSU power past a pair of upper-division Valley foes.
VanVleet put up 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 74-57 win over third-place Indiana State and capped an incredible streak of 15 straight assists without a turnover. He added 15 points and six rebounds vs. Illinois State.
Northern Iowa forward Seth Tuttle shared the award, and Loyola forward Montel James was named Newcomer of the Week.
The Shockers claimed Player of the Week honors a school-record five times in 2013-14.
VanVleet becomes the third different Shocker player to capture the award this season, joining Ron Baker (a two-time winner) and Darius Carter.
In addition, WSU senior Alex Harden was named MVC Women's Player of the Week on Monday.
