Gold Wins Annual Intrasquad Meet

WICHITA, Kan.  --  The Gold Squad won the Wichita State Track and Field Intrasquad meet Friday afternoon at the Heskett Center Indoor Track and Field Facility.

The Gold Team out-distanced the White Team 178.5 to 155, while the Black Team came in third with 145.5 points on the day.

"Lots of teams around the country compete in a December track meet," said Steve Rainbolt, Director of Track and Field and Cross Country. "Those December meets are low-key, low-energy, glorified end the semester time trials before they go home for the holidays. We decided we wanted to do something to add some spirit, enthusiasm and excitement so we divide our team up and they choose up sides, and boy the athletes have have a great time with it. We end up getting a lot better performances and a lot better spirit, so we have a great time.

"I was very impressed with how our team did today. I was really enjoying watching some of our freshmen. We had good pole vault performances, we had good high jump performances, we had terrific sprint and hurdle performances and jumps. I'm hesitant to mention names because there were so many. We had some great throws, especially in the men's weight throw. I am excited about our team. I think we are going to be a team to contend with in the Missouri Valley Conference."

The team split into three squads, Gold, Black and White, using a draft procedure last month and competed in 35 events, some NCAA events and some additional team-building events including a Medball Throw and a Special Relay to cap the day's events.
