OPENING TIPS

• Wichita State (5-5) kicks off a three-game homestand Tuesday night against Nevada (8-3), looking to bounce back from a tough overtime loss at Seton Hall.

• Charles Koch Arena has been the perfect cure for the Shockers' road ailments (however rare). WSU has won 19-straight home games, immediately following a road loss, dating back to the end of the 2008-09 season.

• The Shockers are 3-1 during the month of December, with wins over two RPI top-100 foes (Utah, 20; UNLV 87).

• WSU's five non-conference losses this year equals its combined total from the previous four seasons. From 2011-15 the Shockers were 45-5 in non-conference play (.900).

• WSU owns the nation's third-longest home winning streak (36 games), with its last setback coming in the 2013 home finale against Evansville. Only Louisiana Tech (37) and Arizona (47) have longer active runs.

• The Shockers' 35-straight home non-conference wins ranks second nationally behind Duke (123).

• VanVleet has a shot to reach 100 career victories on Saturday. He's participated in 99 wins at WSU and entered the week trailing only Gonzaga's trio of Kyle Dranginis, Przemek Karnowski and Kyle Wiljer.

• Ron Baker participates in his 100th career game, Tuesday night. The senior has connected on multiple three-pointers in seven of the 10 games this year and in 67 of 99 career contests.

• 25:36 - combined shared court time by WSU's veteran core of  seniors, Ron Baker, Anton Grady, Fred VanVleet and Evan Wessel, in 10 games this year. Grady returned Saturday after missing four games with a spinal concussion and logged 16 minutes. VanVleet missed four November contests with a strained hamstring. Landry Shamet (stress fracture) is now the only injured Shocker.

• Nevada leads the nation in blocked shots at 7.3 per game.

THE SERIES vs. NEVADA
• This is the third meeting all-time between the two programs and is part of a one-game guarantee contract. WSU will not make a return visit.
• Previously, the Shockers claimed a 97-69 victory in December of 1970 in the only regular season meeting, to-date. Nevada ended WSU's 17-game home winning streak in the first round of the 2010 NIT, 74-70.
• The NIT loss to Nevada is one of just eight Shocker home setbacks in the past seven seasons. WSU is 93-8 in Wichita (.921) over that span.
• WSU is 1-0 against the Mountain West this year after defeating UNLV, 56-50, earlier this month in the MVC-MWC Challenge Series.
• WSU has been the MVC's most successful representative in its challenge series with the Mountain West Conference, posting a 4-1 mark.
• WSU is 36-18 all-time against current members of the Mountain West (5-3 in nine seasons under Gregg Marshall), with a 21-3 mark in Wichita.

WSU LAST TIME OUT:
Dec. 19, 2015 (Newark, N.J./Prudential Center)
Seton Hall 80, Wichita State 76 (OT)
• Despite a season-high 19 points from Fred VanVleet (who also matched his career-best with four three-pointers),16 points and seven assists from Ron Baker, and a breakout shooting effort from Conner Frankamp (13 points), WSU fell in overtime at Seton Hall.
• The Shockers led by as many as 11 points with 13 minutes to go but couldn't hang on. The loss ended a string of 25-straight WSU wins when leading at the 5:00-mark.
• Mounting foul trouble doomed Wichita State. Three Shockers fouled out, and WSU committed 31 fouls in 45 minutes (a Gregg Marshall era high). The Pirates took advantage by making 26 free throws on 35 attempts, and 11 of their 13 overtime points came at the line. The Shockers, meanwhile attempted just 14 free throws.
• The Shockers committed a season-high 21 turnovers, equaling their combined total from the three previous games.
• 14 three-pointers matched the Gregg Marshall Era high (set in the 2013 NCAA Tournament win over Gonzaga) and was one shy of the school record, achieved in a 2003 win over UNI.
• Seton Hall avenged a 2014 loss at Charles Koch Arena and defeated WSU for the first time in three tries.
• Frankamp's 13 points were a career-best, topping the 12 he scored in his final game at Kansas in the 2014 NCAA Tournament vs. Stanford.

HOME COOKIN'
WSU's 36-game home winning streak is the fifth-longest in MVC history. If the Shockers can run the table at home for a third-straight year, they would officially pass up Bradley on senior night for the longest home streak by an active Valley member.

Longest Home Winning Streaks by MVC Schools
1. Cincinnati (1957-64) – 86
2. Bradley (1958-61) – 46
3. Oklahoma St. (1936-40) – 46
4. Tulsa (1980-82) -- 38
5. Wichita State (2013-Pr.) – 36

SHOCKERS AMONG THE NATIONAL LEADERS
• Led by its veteran guards, WSU ranks eighth nationally in turnover margin (+5.3). Saturday's loss at Seton Hall marked the first time in 10 games this year that the Shockers have finished with more turnovers than the opposition and only the fifth time in the last two seasons (45 games).
• WSU has three of the nation's winningest seniors, by percentage, with medical redshirt senior Evan Wessel leading the way at 88-10 (.898).

GRADY RETURNS
Anton Grady played 16 minutes, scoring two points to go with six rebounds in his first action since suffering a Nov. 27 spinal cord concussion in the Shockers' AdvoCare Invitational game against Alabama. Grady missed four total games, spanning just over three weeks. He was averaging 9.0 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds prior to the injury.

FRANKAMP BUSTS LOOSE
• Sophomore Conner Frankamp - a semester transfer from Kansas - struggled from the field in his first two home games after making his debut on Dec. 9. He shrugged off an 0-for-9 start from the field by making his last two shots in the win over Utah (Dec. 12) and connected on 4-of-8 at Seton Hall. All 20 of his points this year, including 13 at Seton Hall, have come in the second half or overtime.

BAKER CLIMBING WSU's CAREER SCORING LIST
Baker is on pace to end the year in eighth place on WSU's all-time scoring list. He needs just 24 more points to crack the top-15.

WSU All-Time Leading Scorers
14. Jamie Thompson (1964-69) – 1,359
15. J.T. Durley (2007-11) – 1,327
16. Ron Harris (1969-72) – 1,322
17. Paul Miller (2001-06) – 1,317
18. P.J. Couisnard (2004-08) – 1,303
18. Ron Baker (2012-Pr.) – 1,303
20. Warren Armstrong (1965-68) – 1,301

THREE COMPANY
Baker (200 career three-pointers) became only the third Shocker to reach the 200-mark on Saturday, tying Sean Ogirri for second on the all-time list. He's averaging exactly 2.0 treys per game, putting him on pace to reach 240 by the end of the regular season. Randy Burns (248) holds the all-time mark.

WSU All-Time 3-Pointers List
1. Randy Burns (2001-05) – 248
2. Sean Ogirri (2004-07) – 200
3. Ron Baker (2012-Pr.) – 200
4. Terrell Benton (1998-02) – 197
5. Jason Perez (1996-00) – 196

TAKEWAY BOYS
VanVleet (3rd, 177 career steals) and Baker (T-8th, 126) both rank in the top-10 on WSU's all-time steals list. VanVleet, who owns two of the top four single-season steal totals in school history, needs three more to catch Toure' Murry for second place on the career leaderboard and 45 more to match Jason Perez's record total of 222.

 UP NEXT
The Shockers continue a three-game homestand Dec. 28 against New Mexico State. The 7 p.m. CT tip will air on Cox Channel Kansas.  Drake comes to town on New Years for a 1:00 p.m. tip on ESPNU to open up Missouri Valley Conference play.
