Marshall became just the 12th Division I coach in history to hit the 400-win milestone within his first 18 seasons. The victory on Saturday moved the Shockers to 2-1 on the season, while also running their school-record home winning streak to 34 games.

WSU was without the services of its All-American point guard. Fred VanVleet sat out for the first time in his four-year Shocker career, snapping streaks of 73-consecutive starts and 112-consecutive games played.

Ron Baker topped 20 points for the second-straight game, finishing with a game-high 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field and knocked down 9-of-10 from the free throw line. The Scott City native also added five boards, four assists, a block and a steal.

Early in the first half, Baker passed up a couple of 1970s Shocker legends on WSU's all-time scoring list in Cal Bruton (1,184 points, 1972-76) and Robert Elmore (1,186, 1973-77) and later eclipsed the 1,200-point mark. Baker (1,203 career points) now ranks 24th all-time and remains on pace to finish in the top-10.

For the game, WSU shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the field and 36.8 percent (7-for-19) from downtown. The Hornets finished 20-for-51 (39.2 percent) but were only 3-of-15 (20 percent) from beyond the arc.

Joshua Oswald led ESU with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Charles McKinney added 10 points.

WSU built up a commanding 30-point lead midway through the second half on a flurry of offense. Evan Wessel drilled a three, and Baker followed with another trey and a three-point play to expand a 38-13 halftime lead to 48-18 near the 17-minute mark.

ESU used an 18-5 run to trim the margin considerably and force a Shocker timeout with 7:25 left and WSU's lead down to 57-41.

Baker helped put the game away by scoring 18 of his 23 points after halftime, including 13 in the final seven minutes.

With the score tied at 4 in the early going, Taylor II came off the bench and immediately provided offense with a pair of three-pointers to help WSU go on a 16-0 run. Shaquille Morris would add a thunderous dunk and Rashard Kelly added a layup during the run to put the Shockers up 20-4.

Eric Hamilton provided the exclamation point in the first half with a steal and breakaway, one-hand slam to give Wichita State a 27-8 lead near the 6:00-mark. Taylor II added his third three-pointer of the first half from the right corner with 3:44 remaining. He led all scorers with nine points at the break and WSU led 38-13.

After a 1-for-5 start from the field, Wichita State went on to make 11 of its next 16 attempts to finish 12-for-21 (57.1 percent) in the first half. On the defensive end, the Shockers held Emporia State to just 22.7 percent (5-for-22) shooting from the field, while forcing 12 turnovers.

WSU travels to Orlando, Fla., next week to compete in the AdvoCare Invitational. The Shockers open Thanksgiving Day against Southern California (1 p.m. CT on ESPN2) and will face either Alabama or Xavier on Friday. If WSU wins its opener it would play a semifinal game that day against the winner of Alabama and Xavier at 1:30 pm CT (ESPNU). A Thursday loss would drop WSU into the consolation side of the bracket at 11:00 am CT on ESPN3. The tournament concludes Sunday with seventh-place through championship pairings.
