WICHITA, Kan. – No. 43 Wichita State notched the second of two Friday victories with a 5-0 shutout of former Missouri Valley Conference rival Creighton.
WSU (5-1) took down Missouri early in the day by a score of 6-1.
WSU and Creighton used an experimental scoring system, with four singles and one doubles match played similtaneously.
Giulia Guidetti gave the Shockers their first point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Natalie Miller. Aleksandra Trifunovic pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 takedown of Natalie Miller.
The Shockers clinched the match with an additional singles win by Luca Pump (6-4, 6-0) and a doubles triumph by Julia Schiller and Gabriela Porubin (7-5, 6-3).
Lucia Kovalova closed the match with a 7-6(5), 6-1 win against Jennie Hartjes.
“We have a very deep team and that depth has been evident in the early season,” Wichita State headcoach Colin Foster said. “We know from 1-3 doubles and 1-6 singles, we're going to have opportunities to win, and today we played with a lot of composure in the early stages. We then built confidence as the matches progressed.”
The Shockers' next matches are both on Friday, Feb. 6 when they face Colorado and UMKC at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively at the Wichita Country Club.
