WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team, ranked No. 43 nationally, defeated Missouri 6-1, Friday morning at the Wichita Country Club.
WSU (4-1) claimed victories at each of the top two doubles spots and won five of the six singles matches.
The lone point for Missouri (3-2) came at No. 1 singles, where Kelli Hine fended off a comeback attempt from Julia Schiller to win 6-2, 7-6(5).
Wins at the No. 3-5 positions closed out the win for the Shockers. Abby Stevens polished off Clare Raley, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Lucia Kovalova won in straight sets at No. 5, defeating Brianna Lashway, 6-0, 6-3.
Gabriela Porubin clinched the overall victory for WSU with a win at No. 3 over Madison Rhyner, 6-4, 6-4.
The Shockers are scheduled to face Creighton on Friday afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m.
