WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State men's track and field student-athlete Austin Bahner and incoming men's track and field student-athlete Kord Ferguson both competed for Team USA on Saturday. While Bahner competed during day one of the 2014 Thorpe Cup in Marburg, Germany, Ferguson competed in the discus throw final of the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Bahner finished day one of the 2014 Thorpe Cup in seventh place by scoring 3857 points in the decathlon. Heading into the final day of the 2014 Thorpe Cup on Sunday, Germany has the lead over Team USA. While Germany has 19,831 total points, Team USA has 19,436 total points.
In the 100-meter dash, Bahner had a time of 11.13. During the long jump, Bahner jumped 23'-11” and in the shot put, he threw 41'-9 ¾”. Bahner's high jump mark was 6'-1 ½” and ran the 400-meter dash in 50.26.
Ferguson placed ninth in the discus throw final of the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships by throwing 195'-4”, missing the final-eight by just two centimeters.
Bahner completes the 2014 Thorpe Cup on Sunday by competing in the 110-meter hurdles, the discus throw, the pole vault, the javelin throw and the 1500-meter run. The results will be posted following its completion.
