BSB: Shocks End Season With 6-1 Loss

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Illinois State scored four runs in the first three innings to defeat Wichita State 6-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. With the loss, the Shockers season ends at 31-28.

Starter Kris Gardner went 2.2 innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Chase Simpson and Daniel Kihle each had a hit for the Shockers.

Illinois State jumped on the board in the top of the first. Jack Czeszewski and Daniel Dwyer led off with singles to put runners at the corners and Czeszewski scored on a double play to put the Redbirds in front 1-0.

The Shockers answered with a run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Casey Gillaspie walked and he moved to third on a single to right field from Chase Simpson. Daniel Kihle followed with a single to right field to drive in Gillaspie and tie the score at one.

The Redbirds scored an unearned run in the second. With one out, Logan Leverett tripled to right-center and scored on a failed pickoff attempt by Tyler Baker to give ILS a 2-1 lead.

ILS added on two more in the third on two singles, two walks and a hit by pitch to go in front 4-1 and used three hits to score two more in the eighth for a 6-1 lead.
