WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State defeated Illinois State 4-0 in their first Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) dual-match of the 2014 season on Saturday. Saturday's win moves the Shockers to 15-7 on the year and 1-0 in MVC play while the Redbirds drop to 6-10 and 1-1 in MVC competition.

Doubles play began with WSU's Guillermo de Vilchez/Guillermo Nicol winning 8-2 over Illinois State's Rodrigo Olveira/Dylan Steffens at No. 3 doubles. The Shockers then clinched the doubles point and took the 1-0 dual-match lead after Tomislav Gregurovic/Tin Ostojic defeated Jakub Eisner/Rolando Torrellas 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Ilija Cuic gave Wichita State a 2-0 lead when he had a 6-0, 6-4 straight sets victory against Jacob Wilson.

Ostojic (No. 20 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Singles Rankings) pushed the Shocker advantage to 3-0 after earning a 7-5, 6-1 win over Urh Krajnc at No. 2 singles. Nicol finished the match after winning 6-3, 6-2 in his match against Muddappa Appanervanda out of the No. 4 singles slot.

The Shockers' next dual-match is against Bradley on Sunday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex at noon. Sunday's match will also be senior day to honor the careers of seniors Cuic and Nicol, as Sunday's match will be the final home match of their careers.

At the conclusion of the match, free pizza will be available to the public. The results of Sunday's match will be posted following the completion of play.
