TF: Bahner Set to Compete at NCAA Indoor Championships

WICHITA, Kan. – Austin Bahner will represent Wichita State Shocker track and field at the NCAA Indoor National Championships this weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. Bahner will compete in the men's indoor heptathlon competition where he ranks 10th in the nation. Bahner scored 5,666 points at the Varsity Apartments Invitational, one of two Wichita State home meets.

The Wichita native hurt both hamstrings at the MVC Indoor Championships forcing him to dropout of the heptathlon competition a week ago. Bahner is confident now that he is fully recovered and ready to compete at the national level.

“Coming off two injuries at the MVC meet I was a little disappointed, but coach Rainbolt and our athletic training staff worked very hard to get me ready for the NCAA indoor meet,” Bahner said. “After a week of treatments and training I feel very confident going into the weekend. It is a great competition with a very tough field.”

The senior captain ranks second in the heptathlon in Wichita State track and field history and has his mind set to score well in the first three events.

“I am looking forward to the 60-meter dash, long jump, and shot put because I have been performing well in those throughout the season,” Bahner explained. “I am excited and honored to compete at this competition during my senior year.”

ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 14 starting at 7:55 p.m. Eastern and March 15 starting at 7:50 p.m. Eastern. A tape delay of the championship will air Saturday, March 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU.
