WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State track and field has signed Kord Ferguson, the nation's best high school track and field thrower. Ferguson, from Ottawa, Kan. attends Ottawa High School where he is the defending shot put and discus throw Kansas state champion.
Ferguson will join Wichita State track and field next fall where head coach Steve Rainbolt believes he will have a major impact for his men's team.
“This is a very special signing for us,” Rainbolt said. “Kord is arguably the top shot put and discus thrower in the country, coming back as a senior at the high school level. It is a historic signing for us because of what he has accomplished in track and field. We believe that Kord is going to be able to perform for us in other events besides the shot put and discus throws. Kord is a great athlete and we think he is capable of throwing the javelin, the hammer, and the indoor weight as well.”
Ferguson is ranked in the top 10 in both the shot put and discus throw, according to Track and Field News. He is the nation's only high school returning athlete to be in the top 10 in both the shot put and discus throw.
Kord's personal best include: 63'6'' in the shot put and 199'1'' in the discus throw.
“Kord is a terrific young man and is all about the team aspect of track and field and that is what Wichita State is all about,” Rainbolt added.
