Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Connecticut scored the tying run in the eighth and the winning run in the 10th to defeat Wichita State 2-1 at the Baseball at the Beach tournament.
Starter A.J. Ladwig pitched six shutout innings with six hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Reliever Ray Ashford took the loss.
Casey Gillaspie went 2-for-4 and Micah Green went 2-for-5. Tyler Baker drove in the lone Shocker run.
Garrett Bayliff doubled to left field with one out in the top of the first and after a walk to Casey Gillaspie, Tyler Baker singled through the right side to score Bayliff and give the Shockers an early 1-0 lead.
UConn's Vinny Siena led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to left field and scored on a one-out double by Bobby Melley to tie the score at one.
Melley led off the 10th with a walk and a Nico Darras single up the middle put runners at first and second with nobody out. After a bunt single by Bryan Daniello loaded the bases, Eric Yavarone singled to centerfield to drive in the winning run.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. (Central) against George Mason.
