WICHITA, Kan. - Members of the Wichita State track and field team competed at the Iowa State Classic and the GVSU Big Meet on Friday.
The Shocker Sprinters traveled to Ames, Iowa to compete with some quality sprinters that they have not seen yet this season. Nikki Larch-Miller and Shanice Andrews were the only Shockers to advance to tomorrow's finals in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles events.
Larch-Miller posted the third best time in the preliminary round of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68 seconds. She advanced to tomorrow's final where she will look to maintain or improve her placement. Also, Larch-Miller had the four best time in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary round with a time of 8.60 seconds and placed eighth overall in the women's 200-meter dash at 24.62 seconds which ranks fourth in the MVC.
Andrews qualified for the 60-meter hurdle final after posting a time of 8.67 seconds. She currently ranks first in the MVC after posting a hurdle time of 8.50 seconds last week at the Air Force Invitational.
Ugis Jocis highlighted the day for the Shocker distance runners by taking first place in the men's 3,000 meter run. Jocis finished in a time of 8:17.22 which ranks fifth in the MVC. Jocis has taken first place in three races so far this season, two coming in the 3,000-meter and the other coming in the one-mile run.
Robbie Martinez-Garcia and Sidney Hirsch each posted top-10 finishes for Wichita State. Garcia placed 10th in the men's mile run after finishing in 4:09.74 which ranks third among MVC runners. Hirsch took 10th as well in the women's 3,00-meter run. Hirsch finished in a time of 9:51.40 which ranks ninth overall in the MVC.
Wichita State track and field athletes' will continue competition on Saturday in their respected meets.
