WICHITA, Kan. ? The gold team won the Wichita State annual intersquad quadrangular meet on Friday inside of the Heskett Center on Wichita State's campus by scoring 176.5 points. Finishing second was the white team that scored 172.5 points, the black team scored 98 points to finish third and the gray team was fourth after scoring 82 points.
Each team was comprised of current Shocker track and field student athletes except for the gray team, which was the alumni team. Shocker track and field team captains drafted the black, white and yellow teams.
Field Events
Emily Cook won the women's weight throw for the gold team by throwing 52'-5.50”. Skylar Arneson earned the victory in the men's weight throw after throwing 65'-7.50, a new meet record.
While Arneson won and set a new meet record, the next three participants who finished behind him in the men's weight throw also threw better than the previous meet record.
Weston Cottrell won the men's medball throw by throwing 75'-5.50” to set a new meet record. Cook won the medball event on the women's side by throwing 54'-11.25”, breaking her own meet record that she set back in 2011.
Jenny Pinkston took the crown in the women's long jump for the white team when she jumped 18'-7.25”. During the men's long jump, Tate Annis won with a jump of 23'-6” for the gold team.
Taylor Swanson won the women's pole vault when she vaulted 12'-6.75” for the gold team. Ethan Pearson won the men's pole vault with a jump of 16'-1.25” for the white team, a new meet record.
Cook also won the women's shot put with a throw of 44'-4.75”, breaking her own meet record that she set at last year's intersquad meet. Zach Loesch won the men's shot put for the gold team when he threw 55'-5.50” to set a new meet record.
Former Shocker and current assistant track and field coach Heidi Yost earned the victory for the gray team during the triple jump when she jumped 37'-8.50”. Shazz-Michael Lindo of the black team won the triple jump by jumping 46'-4.75”.
Jaclyn Weber of the gold team won the women's high jump by jumping 5'-1.75 as Garret Lynch won the men's high jump by jumping 6'-9.50” to set a new meet record.
Running Events
Former Shocker All-America Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton of the gray earned the victory in the women's mile run with a time of 5:03.24, breaking Tonya Nero's record of 5:04.04 that was set back in 2009. Ugis Jocis of the gold team won the men's mile run by running a time of 4:18.70.
Ebeissa Nyandwi won the women's 3000-meter run for the black team with a time of 10:00.44, a new meet record. Former Shocker Tomas Cotter earned the win during the men's 3000-meter run by running a time of 8:21.22, setting a new record for the second year in a row.
Nikki Larch-Miller won the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41 to set a new meet record that was broken at last season's intersquad quadrangular meet by Shanice Andrews. Jonathan Duvall took the title on the men's side for the white team with a run of 8.16.
Nora Zajovichs of the black team won the women's 600-meter run with a time of 1:36.68. Ryan Hocker of the gold team earned the win during the men's 600-meter run by running a time of 1:22.69.
Tucker Davis won the men's 300-meter dash when he ran a time of 34.98 for the black team while Taylor Larch-Miller of the gold team won the women's 300-meter dash in 40.73. Nikki Larch-Miller also won the women's 150-meter dash when she ran her race in 18.13, setting a new meet record. Rahim Thompson of the white team won the men's 150-meter dash by running 16.53.
Thompson won the men's 60-meter dash as well, finishing with a time of 6.88 to set a new meet record. Nikki Larch-Miller ran unattached as she earned the victory in the women's 60-meter dash, finishing with a time of 7.44.
The men and women ran all of their relay races together, beginning with the 4x800-meter relay.
WSU's black team took the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:54.90 as the gold team took the 4x300-meter relay with a time of 2.35.50. The black team, running a time of 1.36.99, also won this year's 4x200-meter relay.
During the first ever 4x30 meter relay, the gray team won by running 16.79.
The intersquad championship was determined after the gold team defeated the white team in the traditional tug-of-war battle.
The Shocker track and field teams begin their 2015 indoor season on Friday, January 9 at the Bill Easton Classic inside of the Anschultz Pavilion in Lawrence, Kan.
