Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. – Wichita State used a balanced attack to sweep Southern Illinois, 3-0. The Shockers won by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.
Ashlyn Driskill and Mikaela Raudsepp each had nine kills, while Abbie Lehman added eight. Emily Hiebert led the Shockers with 21 assists, while Dani Mostrom had 13 digs.
SIU took a quick 2-0 lead in the first set, but the Shockers used kills from Ashlyn Driskill and Abbie Lehman to go in front 4-3. The two teams traded points until a 3-0 Shocker run gave WSU a 15-12 lead. A block by Lehman increased the lead to 19-15 and WSU went on to win the set 25-20.
The Shockers jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set and increased the lead to 12-7 on a kill from Katie Reilly. Back-to-back kills from Lehman made the score 17-11 and WSU closed out the set 25-18 on a kill from Mikaela Raudsepp.
The third set went back and forth until the Shockers used a 5-0 run to go in front 20-16. A kill from Jenny Whitledge increased the lead to 22-17 and a Raudsepp kill gave the Shocks a 25-21 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 18 at Evansville at 6 p.m.
