WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State head women's tennis coach Colin Foster released his program's 2013-14 schedule on Monday.
The Shockers will start the fall season September 20-22 in Manhattan, Kan. at the K-State Invitational. The Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships Oct. 4-6 in St. Louis, Mo are next on the fall slate. Last season, the Shockers hosted the MVC Individuals and captured three singles championships and one doubles championship.
Rounding out the fall schedule are the ITA Central Region Championships in Norman, Okla. and the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
“Our fall schedule strikes a good balance and will provide us opportunities to build confidence and work on our games and other opportunities to be tested against strong regional and national competition,” said Foster. “Hopefully some individuals are able to capitalize on those opportunities and break into the regional or national singles and doubles rankings when those are released in January.”
In the spring, Wichita State will open the dual match season on Sunday, January 19 against Arkansas, who finished the 2012-13 season ranked No. 52 by the ITA. The schedule includes three teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season in Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Tulsa; and a total 10 teams that ended the season in the national rankings.
“Our spring schedule once again features very strong non-conference opponents,” added Foster.
“With our entire starting lineup returning and the addition of an all-Mountain West Conference player like Abby Stevens who transferred in from Colorado State, we will have plenty of opportunities to break into the rankings and be well prepared for Missouri Valley Conference play in April.”
