Box Score KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Wichita State swept Austin Peay and won the Comcast Lady Vol Classic with a 4-0 record. The Shockers (9-1) won by scores of 25-16, 25-8 and 25-10.
Ashley Andrade led the Shockers with 10 kills, Sam Sanders added eight kills, while Chelsey Feekin recorded 29 assists and Dani Mostrom had 10 digs in the three-set match.
In the first set, blocks by Sanders, Andrade, and Ashlyn Driskill highlighted the Shocker run of seven straight points to give them a comfortable 11-4 lead. Wichita State expanded on the lead after a kill by Elizabeth Field put the Shockers up 17-8. The Shockers took the first set after two Austin P. hitting errors, 25-16.
Katie Reilly had five consecutive service points that gave Wichita State an early 8-1 lead in the second set. Sanders then followed Reilly's service points with eight consecutive service points that gave the Shockers a commanding 18-4 lead. Andrade then ended the second set with one of her ten kills as Wichita State took the second set, 25-8.
The Shockers completed the sweep with a 25-10 third-set win. Wichita State took advantage of four consecutive hitting erros by Austin P. and would eventually expand their lead to 20-7. Gaby Urban ended the match with a service ace as the Shocker went on to defeat Austin P. in three sets.
The Shockers are next in action, Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 PM. against the Bears of Missouri State in Charles Koch Arena.
