WICHITA, Kan.- The Shocker men's tennis team defeated Southern Illinois 4-0 on Saturday evening at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex and will play for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship against Drake on Sunday.
Wichita State went up a point early by taking the doubles point from the Salukis. Ilija Cuic and Erick Reyes were the first off the courts, defeating Badr Cherrad and Jonny Rigby, 8-2. Matheus Pereira and Tin Ostojic then captured their seventh straight win, taking down Brandon Florez and Martijn Admiraal, 8-5.
Pereira won easily at the No. 1 singles position, defeating Brandon Florez, 6-1, 6-1. Erick Reyes was the next Shocker of the courts when he defeated Rafael Cuadriller, 6-0, 6-2. The win was Reyes' 14th straight singles victory.
Guillermo Nicol clinched the match for Wichita State when he defeated Martijn Admiraal, 6-3, 6-4.
The Shockers will look to avenge their 4-2 defeat in the regular season against Drake in Sunday's championship match. The match begins at 2 p.m. at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
