Biography

As a Senior...Named team captain by head coach Brad Louderback...Began the fall ranked as the No. 93 singles player in the country...Posted a 3-3 record in singles and 8-2 record in doubles for the fall...Made it to the third round of the singles bracket at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational...Made it to the round of 16 in the singles bracket at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships...Along with Alvaro Gutierrez, captured the doubles title at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational by defeating Hans Hach and Borja Cortes of Abilene Christian, 8-6...Made it to the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships

As a Junior...Finished the spring season with a record of 17-3 in singles to push his overall record to 29-7 for the season...Had a doubles record of 16-5 during the spring season...Went 4-1 in MVC play...Was named the the Missouri Valley Conference All-Select Team...Was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team...Played all of his matches at the No. 1 position...Defeated Ahmed Albitar of Bradley 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), to help the Shockers get into the finals of the MVC Tournament.

In the fall, Pereira and Cavalcanti advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw of the prestigous ITA All-Americans in Tulsa, Okla...they were defeated by the No. 3 ranked Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola of Ohio State, 8-5...along they way they defeated a pair of ranked teams, No. 40 Patrick Pohlman and Clark Spinosa of San Diego, 8-6 and they came from behind to beat No. 19 ranked team of Alex Musialek and Eric Quigley of Kentucky, 9-8...advanced to the round of eight at the ITA Regionals, also held in Tulsa before they lost to No.3 team from Minnesota...overall the pair were 9-3 in the fall and they enter the spring ranked #20 in the nation by the ITA...Pereira had a strong individual fall season going 11-2...he advanced to the main draw before he was knocked out by Marcos Giron of UCLA in a tough three-set match, 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-2...he was defeated by Vlad Bondarenko of Oklahoma State, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4  in the round of eight at the 2011 USTA/ITA Central Regionals...enters the spring season ranked No. 66. individually by the ITA.

As a Sophomore...Posted a 15-8 record in the spring including a 6-2 MVC record...Paired with David Cavalcanti for the entire spring they posted a 15-4 doubles record including a 5-2 MVC record and a win at the No. 2 doubles position at the MVC Individuals in January...Was an impressive 4-0 at the Boise State Spring Break Invitational with wins over Alex Joitoiu of Idaho, 6-2, 6-2; Ratan Gill of Portland, 6-2, 6-4; Sherif Hamdy of Saint Mary's, 6-1, 6-4 and Scott Sears of Boise State, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4...had a nine match winning streak that stretched from March to the final match of the regular season...Was selected to the All-Select MVC team and was named to MVC All-Scholar Athlete team.

In the fall, Matheues Pereira (WSU) defeatedSoren Goritzka (TCU) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round of the 2010 All-Americans before falling to David Costa (SMU) 6-3, 6-0 in the second round...posted a 3-1 record at the Razor Racket Invitational including a win over Taj Harrision of Arkansas 6-2, 7-6...posted a 2-1 record at the Razor Racket with Guillermo Nicol including a win over Harrison and Mike Knott of Arkansas 9-7...defeated Tsvetan Mihov of Oklahoma 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and Grant Ive of Tulsa 6-3, 6-2 at the ITA Regionals.

As a Freshman...In his first season with the Shockers the Brazilian freshman posted a 20-8 overall record in singles and a 13-5 doubles record...played in the No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 positions...went undefeated 5-0 in the MVC in both singles and doubles...8-3 overall doubles record with David Cavalcanti...went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles at the MVC Tournament...earned all-conference MVC honors at the No. 6 position in singles and the No. 3 position with David Cavalcanti.

In the fall his record was 5-5 in singles and 0-1 in doubles.

Personal...Born on October 31, 1990 in Sao Paulo, Brazil..Full name is Matheus de Paula Pereira...Son of Rubens Pereira do Santos and Marta de Paula Pereira...Has one brother, Marcel de Paula Pereira (20)...Also recruited by South Carolina, Drake and Buffalo...Currently is undecided on a major at WSU.
