WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's golf team will head
to Rio Verde, Ariz. to compete in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational March
8-10.
The Shocker women are coming off a fall season where they battled
injuries, but had some good individual performances. Senior Hannah Martin led
the way with three top-20 finishes, including two finishes within the top-10.
Freshman Bryce Schroeder came on strong late in the fall
season with a fourth place finish at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial, shooting a
224 (74-75-75). Schroeder finished that performance up with a 15th
place finish at the Fighting Camel Classic.
Joining Martin and Schroeder at the Rio Verde Inviational
will be senior Hollie Weatherburn, freshman Meghan Schuetz and redshirt
freshman Madison Murphy. They will be competing against teams from Akron, UALR,
Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Eastern Michigan, UMKC, Missouri State,
Montana, Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Texas A&M-Corpus
Cristi, Toledo, host school Western Michigan, and Xavier.
The tournament will be played at Rio Verde Country Club on
White Wing Golf Course. White Wing plays to a par of 72 with the front playing
to a par 35 and the back to a par 37. Distances are 2,958 on the front and 3,257
on the back for a total yardage of 6,215. Teams will play 54-holes, 18 each
day. The first round on Friday, March 8 will begin at 1 p.m., while the second
and third rounds on Saturday and Sunday will begin at 8 a.m. All rounds begin
with shotgun starts, and there will be three golfers in each group.
