Box Score LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State scored three runs in
the eighth inning to defeat Wichita State 4-1 in game one of a three game
series.
Three Dirtbag pitchers held the Shockers to just one run on four
hits. Taylor Doggett, Casey Gillaspie, Garrett Bayliff and Tyler Baker each had
a hit.
Reliever Albert Minnis took the loss. He went two innings
and gave up three runs on three hits.
Starter Cale Elam earned a no decision as he went six
innings and gave up one run on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
The Shocks got on the board in the fourth inning. Taylor
Doggett singled to centerfield with one out and scored after Casey Gillaspie
singled to right-center and the ball went under the centerfielder's glove.
Long Beach State tied the game at one in the sixth
inning. Jonathan Serven singled with one
out and scored on a two-out single by Jeff McNeil.
The Dirtbags took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Zack
Rivera singled with one out and after a two-out walk to Josh Guerra, McNeil
singled through the right side to score Rivera for a 2-1 lead. Michael Hill then tripled to right field to
score Guerra and McNeil for a 4-1 advantage.
The Shockers and Dirtbags play game two of the series on
Sat., March 16 at 4 p.m. Central time.
