MGolf: WSU in 4th; Boyer 7th at UMKC

Overland Park, Kan. – Battling wind and rain, the Wichita State University men's golf team slugged its way into fourth place after two rounds at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  Louis Cohen Boyer rests in a tie for seventh in the individual standings.

The Shockers lead several other Missouri Valley Conference schools and enter Tuesday's final round only nine strokes behind first place Central Arkansas.  Oklahoma Christian leads WSU by eight strokes for second and Louisiana-Monroe is three strokes up on the Shockers for third place.

Boyer sparkled from the start, carding a 2-under 70 in the opening round.  That placed the sophomore in a tie for second.  He slowed to a 1-over 73 in the second round but still resides in the top 10.  Alec Heinen (t-12th) and Grant Bennett (t-17th) also landed in the top 20 while Calvin Pearson is tied for 43rd.  Freshman Timmy Jordan, competing unattached, is tied for 30th

WSU leads fellow Valley members UNI (6th), Missouri State (11th), and Drake (12th) as well as regional rivals Oral Roberts (7th), UMKC (8th), and Creighton (t-14th).

Play picks up Tuesday morning at Milburn Golf and Country Club.  Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
