All three of Wichita State's matches this week will be on 103.7 FM as well as on the internet at shockerradio.com. Tuesday's match against Louisville will also be televised on Kansas 22.
Scouting Louisville
Louisville is 10-6 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Wins this season have come against Syracuse, North Dakota State, Rice, Virginia Tech, Memphis, Temple, SMU, Houston, South Florida and UCF. Losses have come against No. 2 Penn State, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin, No. 19 Kentucky, No. 4 Minnesota and Pepperdine. As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .232, while holding opponents to a .184 clip. UL is led offensively by Maya McClendon who is averaging 3.21 kills per set, while Katie George averages 9.57 assists per set and Caitlin Welch averages 4.88 digs per set. The Cardinals are led by second-year head coach Anne Kordes.
Series History vs. the Cardinals
The overall series is tied 1-1. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in Wichita. Wichita State took a four-set win over UL in 2009 in Louisville and the Cardinals won in four sets in 2011 in Louisville.
Last Meeting vs. UL
The last meeting between the two teams was Sept. 3, 2011, in Louisville, Ky. The Cardinals won 3-1 by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-17 and 25-16. Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 11 kills, while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 29 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 21 digs.
Lamb Reaches 300 Victories
Wichita State head coach Chris Lamb earned his 300th career victory on Oct. 5 against Evansville. He is the winningest volleyball coach in school history and now has a record of 301-126 for a winning percentage of .705.
RPI Update
Wichita State is 49th in the second NCAA RPI update of the season, while Louisville is 53, Bradley is 198 and Loyola is 176. WSU is 6-4 against the top-100 with wins over VCU (52), Missouri State (73), South Dakota (69), UNI (80), Utah State (86) and East Tennessee State (97) and losses to Hawaii (10), Creighton (7), Arizona State (39) and Illinois State (57).
Shocks Ranked in Attendance
Wichita State is ranked 12th in average attendance this week. The Shockers are averaging 2,507 fans per match, while national leader Nebraska averages 8,199.
Shocks in the NCAA Stats
The Shocks are ranked in the top-50 in several statistical categories. WSU is 48th in kills per set, 39th in blocks per set, 14th in hitting percentage and 28th in match win-loss percentage. Individually, Ashley Andrade is 11th in hitting percentage and 29th in blocks per set.
Non-Conference Finish
Wichita State will finish the non-conference portion of its schedule on Oct. 15 against Louisville. The Shockers are 10-3 in non-conference matches this season and will face Louisville for the third time in program history. WSU beat the Cardinals in four sets in 2009 in Louisville, Ky., and lost to UL in four sets in 2011 in Louisville.
Five-Game Homestand
The Shockers are beginning a five-game homestand on Tuesday against Louisville. Wichita State then hosts Bradley on Oct. 18, Loyola on Oct. 19, Drake on Oct. 25 and UNI on Oct. 26. It is the longest homestand for the Shockers since a five-game homestand in 2011 where WSU went 4-1.
Andrade's Sensational Senior Season
Senior middle blocker Ashley Andrade is having a senior season to remember. She is averaging a team-best 3.16 kills and 1.31 blocks per set and also hitting a team-best .444. She currently has a streak of seven-straight matches with 10 or more kills and has had 10 or more in 12 of 20 matches this season. She has hit under .300 just three times in 20 matches as well.
2,000 Assists
Senior setter Chelsey Feekin reached 2,000 career assists on Sept. 28 at Drake and became the ninth Shocker to reach that mark. She now has 2,158 career assists and sits in eighth place in the Shocker record books in career assists.
