WICHITA, Kan.- The
Wichita State Track & Field Team faces competition for the first time in
2013 when they host the Herm Wilson Invitational presented by Varsity
Apartments.
"Season openers are always interesting," said Head Coach,
Steve Rainbolt. "We will be excited to see how our athletes did in terms of
training over the holidays."
The Herm Wilson Invitational will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 9
at 5 p.m. in the Heskett Center with the men's long jump. Wichita State's
women's team will compete in the triple jump and pole vault.
Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the weight
throw Wednesday night. The evening's events will conclude with the men's high
jump.
Competition resumes Thursday Jan. 10 with several field
events beginning at 12:30. The running events begin at 3 p.m. with the women's 60m
hurdles prelims.
Oral Roberts, Oklahoma Baptist, Emporia State, Fort Hays
State, and Butler Community College will all travel to Wichita to battle the
Shockers.
After missing out on an MVC Indoor Championship by less than
three points, the Shocker women look capture their second conference indoor
title in three years. Six returning All-MVC performers, including four MVC
Champions, look to avenge this narrow loss.
Wichita State's men's team looks for its first conference
title since 2010. Led by eight returning All-MVC performers, the Shocker men
begin their 2013 at the Herm Wilson Invitational.
"Less than 50 days from right now is our Missouri Valley
Conference championship," Rainbolt explained. "Our athletes need to get started
with a strong meet at the Herm Wilson Invitational,"
