Box Score DALLAS, Texas - Wichita State got a career-high 17 kills
from Sam Sanders and a career-high 12 kills from Chelsey Feekin in a sweep over
Texas State at the SMU Doubletree Classic.
The Shockers (6-3) won by scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-17.
WSU finished the tournament 3-0 to win the tournament
championship. Sanders earned MVP honors,
while Feekin and Jackie Church were also named to the all-tournament team.
Sanders hit .371 in the match, while Feekin hit .750. Feekin also had 32 assists and seven digs,
while Church had 14 digs.
Texas State got off to a fast start in the first set by
taking a 7-2 lead. The Shockers
responded with a 7-1 run to take a 9-8 lead.
The set went back-and-forth until WSU used two kills from Feekin, a
service ace from Emily Adney and a kill by Sanders to take a 20-15 lead. WSU closed out the set 25-19 on a kill by
Ashley Andrade.
The Bobcats took an early 7-4 lead in the second set before
the Shocks used a 4-0 run to take a 10-9 lead.
The teams traded points until back-to-back kills from Sanders put the
Shocks up 21-18. Another kill by Sanders
gave WSU the 25-22 win.
The Shockers raced out to a 12-4 lead in the third set and
increased it to 17-8 on a kill by Sanders.
The Bobcats cut it to 18-13 with a service ace, but three-straight
points put the Shocks up 21-13 and WSU cruised to the 25-17 win.
WSU is next in action on Fri., Sept. 14 at Drake to open up
Missouri Valley Conference play.
