WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State Track & Field hosts the Track-It Buster Invitational,
presented by Holiday Inn, starting Friday, April 27 and continuing Saturday,
April 28 at Cessna Stadium.
Student-athletes
from Oral Roberts, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Arlington, Tulsa and UMKC are
scheduled to compete against the Shockers. The scored meet will feature some of
the nation's top track & field programs from conferences outside the BCS.
Wichita State's second home meet of the outdoor season opens at 8 p.m. Friday,
April 27 with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The men's hammer kicks off
Saturday's schedule at 11:30 a.m. Running events open with the women's
100-meter hurdles preliminaries at 5 p.m. Saturday and running event finals
start at 6:10 p.m. Saturday.
Stephen
F. Austin won the 2011 BCS Buster Invitational at Cessna Stadium with 175
points on the men's side and 155 points on the women's side. Wichita State
finished second in both the men's (152 points) and women's (151 points) team
standings last season.
The
Shockers currently have 14 individuals or relay teams who have posted marks
this season that rank among the top 30 nationally. WSU junior Aliphine Tuliamuk's
performances in the women's 5K (15:26.07) and 10K (32:39.35) this season rank fourth
and third, respectively, in the nation. Shocker senior Todd McKown, the MVC Men's
Track Athlete of the Week, ran the nation's eighth-fastest time in the men's
110-meter hurdles last weekend (13.69). Lawson Montgomery ranks 15th
nationally in the event (13.77). Brett Trudo ranks 17th nationally
in the javelin (235-7).
The
Wichita State women's track & field team ranks seventh in the Midwest
Region, according to the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country
Coaches Association rankings. The Shocker men rank ninth in the Midwest.
Admission is free Friday night and costs $3 Saturday after 2 p.m. Students and
children under age 2 will be admitted free.
