WICHITA, Kan.- The No. 61 Shocker women's tennis team
defeated Drake, 7-0, today at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
The Shocks set the tone early, taking all three doubles
contests to take an early lead over the Bulldogs. Lutfiana Budiharto and Carla Venticinque
defeated Jessica Aguilera and Klavdija Rebol, 8-1, Montse Blasco Fernandez and Veronika
Blaskova defeated Amanda Aragon and Nell Boyd, 8-2, and Lucia Kovalova and Delia
Damaschin defeated Gabriela Demos and Manca Krizman, 8-2, to put the Shockers
up, 1-0.
In singles, all of the Shocker women continued their
undefeated conference seasons, taking all six of the contests.
Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul clinched the match when she defeated Ali Patterson,
6-2, 6-0. It was her sixth straight singles victory.
"We came out with great focus and energy today," said head
coach Colin Foster. "Drake is a very solid team and we didn't let off the pedal
all day."
The Shocker women will play their last conference match of
the season on Sunday against Northern Iowa on Senior Day for Lutfiana Budiharto and Delia Damaschin.
"We're excited to go for an undefeated conference season
tomorrow on Senior Day," said Foster. "UNI has had some ups and downs this year
but they pushed us on the final day last year and I expect a tough match again
tomorrow."
The match will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sheldon Coleman
Tennis Complex.
