WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State women's golfer Daniela Rugeles has
been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Athlete of the Week.
A freshman from Bogota, Colombia, Rugeles finished in a tie
for seventh place at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, Ariz. The field
included Wyoming, Boise State, Colorado State, Creighton, Eastern Washington,
Iowa, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona,
Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Seattle,
South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC Riverside, Utah Valley, UTEP, Weber State,
Wichita State and Xavier. She shot a 54-hole score of 221 (69+73+79), which was
good for second-best in Shocker history. Her first-round score of 69 makes her
only the second golfer in Wichita State history to shoot below 70 in a round.
The Shocker women will head to the Missouri Valley
Conference Championships at The Country Club of Terre Haute, April 22-24.
