WICHITA, Kan. — Aliphine Tuliamuk will represent
Wichita State track & field in the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field
Championships Friday and Saturday in Nampa, Idaho.
The junior from Kapenguria, Kenya will compete
at 9:25 p.m. CST Friday, March 9 in the women's 5,000 meters and at 9:10 p.m.
CST Saturday, March 10 in the women's 3,000 meters at the Boise State Jacksons
Indoor Track.
Tuliamuk brings the nation's third-fastest time
of the season into Friday's 5K race. Her 5K time of 15:36.53 from the February Iowa
State Classic ranks 13th on the all-time collegiate 5K list,
according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association record book. The time also currently ranks fourth in the world this
season, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations. Tuliamuk's
time shattered the Wichita State school and Missouri Valley Conference 5K records
she set last season by more than 17 seconds.
Her 3K time of 9:11.49 at the January Boston University
Terrier Invitational broke school and conference records and ranks
18th nationally this season.
Tuliamuk finished eighth in the 5K at the 2011
NCAA Indoor Championships, earning all-American status with a time of 16:14.38.
She won 2012 MVC Indoor Championship titles in the 3K and 5K in late February.
Wichita State track & field will host a public
watch party from 6-10 p.m. Friday, March 9 in the track & field team room
(entrance located at the northwest corner of Cessna Stadium). Light
refreshments will be served.
