FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Wichita State seniors Dylan Hartnett, Todd McKown,
Lawson Montgomery and Audacia Moore competed Friday at the Arkansas Last Chance
meet trying to post their best times of the season in hopes of making the NCAA
Indoor Championships.
Missouri Valley Conference champion McKown just missed his personal
best in the men's 60-meter hurdles by one-hundredth of a second, finishing
second in 7.86, while Montgomery finished third in the race with a personal
best 7.87 at the University of Arkansas Randal Tyson Track Center.
Typically the nation's top 16 athletes
in each event advance to the NCAA meet. Montgomery and McKown entered
the meet both ranked among the nation's top 41 and needed to post a time of
7.70 to automatically qualify for the NCAA meet and a 7.77 to rank among the
nation's top 20 in the event.
Moore ran her best time of the season in
the women's 200 meters, finishing seventh in 24.42. The automatic NCAA qualifying
time for the event is 23.12 this season and the current top 20 times nationally
are below 23.62.
Hartnett finished 12th in the
men's 200 meters in 21.92, but was unable to better his personal best and MVC
championship time of 21.69 in the event this season. The NCAA automatic
qualifying time in the event is 20.73 this season and the nation's top 20
athletes currently have times below 21.10.
Shocker junior Aliphine Tuliamuk
automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the women's 5,000
meters earlier this season and will represent Wichita State March 9-10 in
Nampa, Idaho. Her time of 9:11.49 in the women's 3,000 meters from earlier this
season currently sits 16th nationally. Where that time ends up ranking
on the final NCAA qualifier list will determine if Tuliamuk will also have the opportunity
to compete in the 3K at nationals.
