Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State Shocker baseball team
defeated the Tulane Green Wave, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Eck Stadium.
Senior Josh Smith got the win, pitching five innings,
allowing no runs on five hits and striking out six. The win moves Smith to 2-1
on the season.
Casey Gillaspie went two-for-two at the plate with two
doubles, a walk and one RBI. Gillaspie had a good series for the Shockers,
hitting the first three extra base hits of his career.
For the first time in the series, the Shockers would get on
the board first. Casey Gillaspie hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field to
plate Erik Harbutz and put Wichita Sate up 1-0 in the first inning.
Wichita State would use a sacrifice fly again in the bottom
of the sixth. After a walk by Johnny Coy to leadoff the inning, Casey Gillaspie
doubled down the right field line for his second double of the day. Then, after
Mikel Mucha earned another walk for the Shockers, Ryan Hege knocked a fly ball
to center field that scored Coy and put the Shocks up, 2-0.
The Shockers added another insurance run in the eighth when Kevin
Hall doubled to left field to score Micah Green.
Cale Elam pitched two innings, getting his fourth save of
the season to close out the game for the Shocks.
Wichita State is back in action on Tuesday night against
Oral Roberts at Eck Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
