Houston, Texas - Tyler Gann and Calvin Pearson led the No.
35 Wichita State men's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Rice
Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The two
tied for 10th out of 81 competitors at Westwood Golf Club.
Gann shot 1-over for the 54-hole tournament
(74-72-71=217). He progressively
improved his score on the Par 72-7,184 yard course. The junior carded a par-or-below on 48 holes and collected
six birdies.
Pearson recovered quickly from a tough first round to catch
his teammate at 1-over (77-69-71=217).
The sophomore birdied 11 holes over the final two rounds to spur WSU
into a Top 5 finish.
Northwestern captured the team title by four strokes over
Houston. The Wildcats were the
only team in the field to shoot under par and finished 2-under
(289-287-286=862). Northwestern's
Eric Chun and New Mexico State's Zachery Fullerton tied for the individual lead
at 6-under.
The Shockers take a break from competition before returning
to action March 19-20 at the Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
