Nationally Ranked Men's Golf Begins Spring Season

The nationally ranked Wichita State University men's golf team kicks off the spring season at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas today.

Live Scoring is available HERE.

The Shockers turned in an exceptional fall, which was so impressive WSU cracked the national Top 25 rankings in two polls and earned Hunter Sparks a No. 32 national ranking by GolfWeek.  The Shockers have GolfStat's top three rated golfers in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Sparks, a junior, leads the way with a sub-70 stroke average.  He shared the Diet Pepsi Shocker Invitational title with teammate Calvin Pearson to kick off the fall season then later earned medalist honors at the Herb Wimberly Invitational in impressive fashion, carding a 68-65-66=199.   The Oklahoma City native captured two other Top-10 finishes and concluded the fall with a 68.91 stroke average, good for second in the country.

Three other Shockers earned spots on GolfStat's Top 80.  Pearson, a sophomore, checked in at No. 21, with junior Rafael Becker on his heels at No. 31 and freshman Louis Cohen Boyer at No. 78.

The 15-team field will play 36 holes on Monday (8 a.m. shotgun start) followed by 18 holes on Tuesday (7:30 a.m. tee times) at Oak Hills Country Club (6,765/par 71).
