The nationally ranked Wichita State University men's golf team kicks off the spring season at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas today.

The Shockers turned in an exceptional fall, which was so impressive WSU cracked the
national Top 25 rankings in two polls and earned Hunter Sparks a No. 32
national ranking by GolfWeek. The
Shockers have GolfStat's top three rated golfers in the Missouri Valley
Conference.
Sparks,
a junior, leads the way with a sub-70 stroke average. He shared the Diet Pepsi Shocker Invitational title with
teammate Calvin Pearson to kick off the fall season then later earned medalist
honors at the Herb Wimberly Invitational in impressive fashion, carding a
68-65-66=199. The Oklahoma
City native captured two other Top-10 finishes and concluded the fall with a
68.91 stroke average, good for second in the country.
Three
other Shockers earned spots on GolfStat's Top 80. Pearson, a sophomore, checked in at No. 21, with junior
Rafael Becker on his heels at No. 31 and freshman Louis Cohen Boyer at No.
78.
The 15-team field will play 36 holes on Monday (8 a.m. shotgun start) followed by 18 holes on Tuesday (7:30 a.m. tee times) at Oak Hills Country Club (6,765/par 71).
