Box Score LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Wichita State volleyball team used a
3-1 win over No. 20 Kansas to advance to the first Sweet Sixteen in school
history. The Shockers (24-9) won by
scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21.
The Shockers advance to play USC on Fri., Dec. 7 in Austin,
Texas.
Ashley Andrade led the Shockers with 18 kills and nine
blocks, while Elizabeth Field had 13 kills, Emily Adney had 11 kills and Ashlyn
Driskill had 10. Chelsey Feekin had nine
kills, 48 assists and 10 digs, while Jackie Church had 19 digs.
The first set went back-and-forth until a kill by Tayler
Tolefree put KU up 18-15. The Shockers
pulled to within 21-20 on two-straight Feekin kills and tied the set at 21 on a
KU error. WSU took a 23-22 lead on
another Jayhawk miscue, but KU scored the final three points to win 25-23.
The Shockers used a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead in the second
set. A kill by Field increased the lead
to 12-8 and an 8-0 Shocker run behind the serving of Feekin gave WSU a 22-10
lead. A 5-0 Jayhawk run made the score
22-15, but WSU scored three of the final four points for a 25-16 win.
The teams traded points early in the third set, before a
kill by Caroline Jarmoc gave KU a 12-10 lead.
The Shockers used a kill from Field and two KU errors to take a 13-12
lead. The two teams went back-and-forth
until the Shockers used kills from Andrade, Katie Reilly, Field and Adney to go
in front 22-18. WSU closed out the set
25-19 on a kill from Field.
WSU used a 4-0 run in the middle of the fourth set to lead
17-11. KU pulled to within 20-19, but
the Shockers scored five of the seven points including three kills from Adney
for the 25-21 win.
