Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii - No. 10 Hawaii lost the first set, but
came back to beat Wichita State 3-1 in the Chevron Rainbow Wahine
Invitational. UH won by scores of 21-25,
25-21, 25-19 and 25-18.
Emily Adney had a team-high 12 kills for the Shockers, while
Camri Zwiesler added 10. Mary Elizabeth
Hooper had 30 assists and six kills, while Sarah Waldorf had 18 digs.
The first set went back-and-forth until a kill from Emily
Adney gave the Shocks a 10-8 lead.
Hawaii answered with four-straight points to go in front 12-10, but a
kill from Ashley Andrade ended the run.
The two teams traded points until a Hawaii hitting error gave WSU a
22-19 lead and two kills from Sam Sanders down the stretch helped the Shockers
to the 25-21 win.
The Rainbow Wahine took a quick 3-0 lead in the second set
and increased it to 10-6 with a block.
The Shocks scored five-straight behind the serving of Camri Zwiesler to
take an 11-10 lead. Back-to-back kills
from Adney increased the lead to 15-13, but UH's service game took over the
rest of the set as they used four aces down the stretch to take a 25-21 win.
The two teams raced out to a 13-13 tie in the third set
before Hawaii began pulling away. A
Sanders kill ended a 5-0 UH run and Kelsey Banwart served two-straight aces to
cut the lead to 17-16, but UH scored eight of the last 11 points to win 25-19.
The fourth set went back-and-forth until UH used a 5-1 run
to take a 13-8 lead. The Shockers got no
closer than four the rest of the way as UH won the set 25-18.
The Shockers wrap up the tournament with San Francisco on
Sun., Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. (CST).
