Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii - Wichita State dropped its season opener
in three sets to Arizona in the opening match of the Chevron Rainbow Wahine
Invitational. UA won by scores of 25-14,
25-21 and 25-20.
Camri Zwiesler had nine kills for the
Shockers and Emily Adney added eight, while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 13 assists and Chelsey Feekin had 12
assists. Sarah Waldorf had a team-high
12 digs.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first set and
the Shockers were never able to get closer than eight the rest of the way as
Arizona claimed a 25-14 win.
A kill by Emily Adney gave the Shocks an early 4-3 lead in
the second set, but UA scored three-straight to take a 6-4 lead. The Wildcats took a 9-5 advantage with a service
ace, but the Shocks used a 6-0 run to go back in front 11-9. Jackie Church had two service aces during the
run and Camri Zwiesler added two kills. The
Wildcats used a 3-0 run to take a 12-11 lead and increased it to 15-13 with a
block. The set went back-and-forth with
the Wildcats taking the 25-21 win.
Four-straight kills put the Wildcats up 4-1 in the third
set, but an Adney kill and a block by Elizabeth Field and Sam Sanders cut the
lead to 7-6. With UA up 16-12, the
Shockers used an Adney block, a Sanders kill and a Field block to tie the score
at 17. With the score tied at 18, the
Wildcats pulled away in the 25-20 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Aug. 27 when they
play No. 10 Hawaii at 11:55 p.m. (CST).
