Wichita State hosts Tulsa on Fri., Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena and then travels to Tulsa on Sun., Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.

SCENE SETTERS
•Wichita State is coming off of a 2-0 weekend after opening American play with wins at UAB and Memphis.
•The Shockers are now 7-2 in American Conference openers and have started 2-0 in American play for the fourth-straight season and seventh time overall.
•WSU is 6-2 in American Conference home openers.
•WSU leads the series with Tulsa 44-15.
•The Shockers finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with an 8-4 record. 
•WSU had 2,681 fans in attendance at the Kansas match on Sept. 16. It was the largest home attendance since 2023.
•Middle blocker Maddie Wilson and right side hitter Brooklyn Leggett were both named to the American Conference Honor Roll this week.
•The Shockers tied a program record by allowing just four points in the first set against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 11.
•The Shockers are coming off an 18-14 season in 2024 that culminated in a dominant run to the American Conference Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. 
•The Shockers appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time overall and the first since 2017.
•The Shockers were picked third in the American Conference preseason poll. Rice was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite, garnering nine first place votes to South Florida's four. Brooklyn Leggett was named preseason all-conference.
•Wichita State returns three starters and the libero from the 2024 team including senior outside hitters Brooklyn Leggett and Emerson Wilford, junior middle blocker Maddie Wilson and senior libero Katie Galligan. 
•Head coach Chris Lamb is in his 26th season at the helm of the Shockers. Known affectionately as "Lambo," the veteran head coach owns a career record of 536-254, good for a .678 winning percentage and the most wins in the American Conference.

BEST START
•Wichita State is off to its best start at 10-4 since starting 11-3 in 2017. That team went 20-0 in American Conference play.

LEGGETT AND WILSON NAMED TO HONOR ROLL
•Wichita State volleyball student-athletes Brooklyn Leggett and Maddie Wilson have both been named to the American Conference Honor Roll for their performances the week of Sept. 22-28. 
•The Shockers won road matches at UAB and Memphis to start 2-0 in American Conference play.
•Leggett, a redshirt senior outside hitter from Draper, Utah, averaged 3.43 kills per set, 0.86 digs per set and 0.86 blocks per set, while hitting .404.
•In the four-set win at UAB, she had 12 kills, two digs and five blocks, while hitting .357. In the three-set win at Memphis, she finished with 12 kills, four digs and one block, while hitting 474.
•Wilson, a redshirt junior middle blocker from Colorado Springs, Colo., averaged 1.43 blocks per set, 1.71 kills per set and 0.29 service aces per set, while hitting .304.
•In the four-set win at UAB, she had five blocks, nine kills and a service ace, while hitting .571. In the three-set win at Memphis, she finished with five blocks, three kills and one service ace.

WEEKEND RECAP    
•The Shockers opened up American play 2-0 with wins at UAB and Memphis.
•At UAB, the Shockers won by scores of 26-24, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-15. Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 14 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 29 assists and Gabi Maas had 15 digs.
•At Memphis, the Shockers won by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22. Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 13 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 26 assists and Gabi Maas had nine digs.

SHOCKS IN THE NCAA STATS    
•In the Sept. 30 NCAA stat report, the Shockers are ranked 76th in assists per set, 67th in digs per set, 82nd in hitting percentage, 56th in kills per set, 63rd in match win/loss percentage, 81st in opponent hitting percentage, 42nd in team assists, 91st in team attacks per set, 53rd in team digs, 31st in team kills and 72nd in team total attacks.
•Individually, Jordan Heatherly is 82nd in assists per set and 27th in total assists, Sydney Dunning is 100th in kills per set, 60th in points, 65th in total attacks and 46th in total kills, Maddie Wilson is 21st in blocks per set and 10th in total blocks and Gabi Maas is 81st in digs per set and 97th in total digs.

WSU-TULSA SERIES    
•Wichita State leads the overall series with Tulsa 44-15. The Shockers lead the series in Wichita 24-2 and in Tulsa 19-10. Head Coach Chris Lamb is 15-2 against the Golden Hurricane. The Shockers have won 13-straight against Tulsa and 22-straight in Wichita. 
•The last meeting between the two teams was Nov. 22, 2025, in Wichita in the quarterfinals of the American Championship. The Shockers won 3-0.
•In that meeting, the Shockers won by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-22.
Morgan Stout led the Shockers with 12 kills, while Izzi Strand had 28 assists and Katie Galligan had 17 digs.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE    
•Tulsa is 11-3 this season and 1-1 in the American with wins over Cleveland State, Cal Poly, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas State, Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian, New Mexico State, Oral Roberts, Little Rock, and UTSA and losses to Wyoming, Colorado and Rice.
•Olivia Vance leads Tulsa with 2.96 kills per set, while Brayden Hipp averages 9.02 assists per set and Lauren Patterson averages 4.14 digs per set.
•Tulsa finished 18-11 in 2024 and 10-6 in the American.
•Head coach Lauren Ramatowski is in her third season with Tulsa.

SCHOOL RECORD    
•Middle blocker Maddie Wilson set the school record for blocks in a four-set match during the rally scoring era with 11 against Drake on Sept. 18.
•The previous record was 10 set by seven others including Sara Lungren, Elizabeth Meyers, Jen Ray, Darci Vohs, Sarah McGee, Ashley Andrade and Morgan Stout.

35TH-STRAIGHT    
•With the win over Drake on Sept. 18, the Shockers won their 35th-straight match against the Bulldogs. 
•The last time the Shockers lost to Drake was in 2000.
•Head Coach Chris Lamb  is 35-1 all-time against Drake.

PROGRAM RECORD   
•Wichita State tied a program record in the first set against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 11. 
•The Shockers allowed just four points in the set.
•WSU also allowed just four points to Evansville on Nov. 21, 2015.

CAREER-HIGHS    
•The Shockers had two players with career-highs over the weekend.
•McKenzie Jones had a career-high eight kills, 18 attack attempts and five blocks at UAB and hit a career-best .300 at Memphis.
•Allie Paulsen had a career-high six block assists at UAB.

UP NEXT    
•The Shockers host Memphis on Oct. 10 and UAB on Oct. 12 at Charles Koch Arena.
