WICHITA,
Kan. - Wichita
State distance runner Scarla Nero finished in eighth place in the women's
3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2011 Central American and Caribbean Senior
Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico Sunday evening.
Nero posted
a time of 11:33.66, competing for her native Trinidad and Tobago at Central
America Stadium. Jamaica's Korene Hinds won the race with a time of 9:54.67.
Nero, from
Maracas, Trinidad and Tobago, completed her junior year at Wichita State in
2010-11 and moved into the WSU all-time list in three outdoor events - women's
3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.
The CAC Championships,
organized by the Central American and Caribbean Athletic Confederation, serve
as a qualifier for the 2011 World Championships.
