Round 1 – March 20, 2011 – Wichita, Kan.
Post-Game Press Conference Quotes
Student-Athlete: Jacqui Kalin
On the final sequence of the game…
“We didn't get the shot we wanted.”
On what the team was trying to accomplish in the game…
“Take what the defense gives us. Leave it on the floor. Whatever we were going to do, we were going to go out there and give it everything we had and just leave it on the floor.”
Student-Athlete: Erin Brocka
On whether her final shot was partially blocked…
“No, I don't think she got a piece of it. It just didn't come off my hand quite like I wanted it to.”
On UNI's rebounding performance…
“That was a big key of ours. We knew if we could keep that close we could keep the game close. We knew if we could limit them to one shot and done, for the most part we did that. That obviously paid off for us, and kept the game very close. That's what we wanted to do; have a chance to win it and we had that chance.”
On the final moments of the game…
“We hit some big free throws at the end, so I think that kept us in the game.”
Student-Athlete: K.K. Armstrong
On UNI's defensive effort…
“The first half wasn't as good as we wanted it to be. Towards the end we had a lot of rebounds and steals.”
On what problems Michigan State's defense presented…
“I knew I could take them off the dribble. If I couldn't get a layup, I could dish it to my teammates and get the assist that way.”
Head Coach Tanya Warren
Opening Statement
“I thought it was a good game. We were nervous and did some uncharacteristic things. We came out and we battled and put ourselves in a place to win. We just didn't get it done.”
On her team's performance…
“It's a game of runs and that's what we talked to our kids about. Our kids did a great job of covering up shooters. We rebounded and that's what got us back in the game.”
On UNI's rise as a program…
“It's been an unbelievable ride. I told them today this game didn't define the season. All we asked is that we left it out on the floor. They did that all season long. If you look back over a year ago that's when we really got the ball rolling. We stand together, there's no question this program is on the rise.”
Locker Room Quotes
Student-Athlete: Katelin Oney
On getting to the free throw line…
“Those girls are pretty tall, so when I shot the three, I thought they were going to be blocked. So I just tried to get to the rim.”
On being a leader next year…
“As a senior, I need to step up that role, as well as the other seniors. It gives us that drive to carry on to next year, and we'll carry that over to the freshmen too.”
Student-Athlete: Rachel Madrigal
On being an aggressive player…
“People are always telling me to be more aggressive, and the whole team was having success getting to the rim.”
On guarding MSU's Kalisha Keane…
“She's a great player, she doesn't need much space. Going into it, it was a great challenge for me and the rest of the team.”
On looking forward to next season…
“We lose two great players in Lizzie and Erin. Going into next year, the others, like me, need to step up during the summer.”
