Cyclones Sweep Shockers, 7-2

WICHITA, Kan.- Iowa State beat Wichita State, 7-2, to sweep the Shockers' in their first home series at Wilkins Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Five different Shockers picked up one hit in the game against the Cyclones. Hayley Temple went 1-for-4 and scored one run. Kiersten Dixon, Jamie Hull, Holly Eckert, and Brittney Osborn all picked up a hit in the contest.

Wichita State fell to 6-18 on the season, as Iowa State improved to 14-8. Rachel Zabriskie improved to 8-4 in the circle for the Cyclones as she picked up the win. She went 7.0 innings giving up two runs off of five hits.

Katie Armagost fell to 4-7 on the season going 5.0 innings and giving up three runs off of four hits.

Iowa State took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning scoring one run off of one hit and one error. Erica Miller scored off of a Katie Harms sacrifice hit to the left side of the infield.

The Cyclones added another run in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 2-0 in favor of ISU. Miller walked to lead off the inning and then advanced to second base due to a wild pitch. A sacrifice bunt moved her to third, and a sacrifice fly from Anna Cole brought her across the plate.

The Shockers threatened with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Cyclones were able to get out of the inning and hold WSU scoreless.

ISU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning off of a Tori Torrescano solo home run to center field. The Cyclones went on to score four more runs in the inning off of five hits and one error. They took a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Wichita State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring two runs off of two hits and one error. Hayley Temple led things off with a double down the left field line. She came around to score as Sammie Shook reached on an error by the third baseman. Shook advanced all the way to third base as the Cyclones tried to make a play at home on Temple. Shook then scored on a wild pitch and made the score 7-2.

The Cyclones held onto the 7-2 lead and swept the series against Wichita State.

The Shockers hit the road for spring break as they travel to Southern Illinois and Western Illinois for a five game road swing. Wichita State opens up the conference season on the road in Carbondale starting with a double-header on Sat., March 19 at 12:00 p.m. They will wrap up the series with the Salukis on Sun., March 20 with a single game at 12:00 p.m. The Shockers will then travel to Macomb, Illinois for a double-header with Western Illinois on Wed., March 23 starting at 3:00 p.m.
