Shockers Sweep North Texas, Win 12th Straight

DENTON, Texas – Wichita State racked up 12 more hits, including two home runs, to finish off a sweep of North Texas, 8-2, Sunday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.

With its 12th straight win, Wichita State (32-15, 18-6) is now one win shy of tying the school record for consecutive victories. The Shockers remain tied for first in the American Conference standings with South Florida after the Bulls swept UAB this weekend.

Ausha Moore hit her 20th home run of the season, becoming just the third Shocker (Addison Barnard and Madison Perrigan) in program history with 20 homers in a single season. She finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Trinity Allen went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. After having her hit streak snapped yesterday, Kammie Smith went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the finale. Aeryn Shuman put a bow on a stellar weekend with an RBI double. Jodie Epperson singled twice, Kinzey Woody walked twice, singled and drove in a run and Mackenzie Rooney singled to round out the offense.

Ryley Nihart (15-9) won her seventh straight decision. She went 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Jade Sanders tossed 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

North Texas struck first in the bottom of the first on a two-out solo home run from Madison Conley.

Wichita State's bats went to work in the top of the third. Two, two-run home runs in the inning put the Shockers in front, 4-1. Moore hit her second home run of the series for the first and then two batters later, Allen followed with laser down the left field line.

Woody's RBI single in the top of the fourth pushed to margin to 5-1.

The Mean Green scratched out a run in the home half of the fourth on an inning-ending double play.

A bases loaded walk for Allen and a North Texas error in the top of the sixth made it 8-2 in favor of the Shockers.
