Wichita State University freshman Calvin Pearson was named
the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for Feb. 23rd. Pearson tied for second at the Rice
University Intercollegiate and led the Shockers to a third-place team finish.
Pearson's 210 (67-72-71) tied for the third-best three-round
score in the 11-year history of the tournament. He shot par or better in all three rounds to record his
first Top 10 finish as a Shocker. New
Mexico State's Gaston De La Torre edged Pearson by three strokes for the
individual medal.
The freshman's 5-under 67 in the first round helped Wichita
State set the tournament record for an opening round score of 281.
Not only was Pearson's 54-hole total 210 a personal best, he
also helped lift WSU to the team's top finish since winning the Missouri Valley
Conference Tournament last year.
Wichita State returns to action March 7-8 at Long Beach (Calif.)
State.
