WICHITA, Kan. -
The Wichita State baseball team has been voted second in the annual Missouri
Valley Conference baseball preseason coaches poll, announced Feb. 1 by the
league office.
The Shockers accumulated 53 points, including four
first-place votes. Illinois State
was picked first in the poll with 58 points and the other four first-place
votes.
Wichita State also earned three preseason all-Valley honors
as sophomore Johnny Coy was honored at first base, senior Preston Springer was
named as the designated hitter and senior Tim Kelley was honored as a starting
pitcher.
The Shockers open play on Fri., Feb. 18 against Niagara at
Eck Stadium.
