WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita State track & field team
kicks off the 2011-12 season Friday, Dec.
9 with the Shockers' annual Intersquad Meet.
The meet begins at 11 a.m. in the Heskett Center with the
men's and women's weight throw, and continues throughout the afternoon. Running
events open at 1 p.m. with the mile run. The meet is free and open to the
public.
Current Shocker student-athletes will participate in the
meet as part of three different squads (Gold, Black and White). Newcomers to the program are drafted each
season by captains of the three teams. More than 30 alumni will also participate
in the day's events as part of a fourth squad (Gray).
The
White team won last season's Intersquad Meet with 151 points, followed by Gold
with 137 points, Black with 120 points and Gray with 90 points. The Gold squad
won in 2009 and 2007, while the Black team won in 2008.
The day will culminate in the Shocker track & field and
cross country teams' annual Winter Banquet at 6 p.m. Friday in the Preferred
Health Systems Multi-Purpose Gym at Charles Koch Arena.
